Heading Out Unknowingly

Heading Out Unknowingly is the successor to On Unnamed Horizons, carrying a lot of the same sort of design principles but honing & refining them. 

With the name change comes a radical redesign, as HOU is (mostly) diceless & mathless as well. Some quick points include:

• Classless. HOU is class-free. Build characters using 98 different abilities!
• XPless Instead of tracking XP, characters must find the means to gain abilities within the GM's campaign setting and spend time off-screen learning them.
• (Mostly) Mathless. Math can take time in the moment, and it can bog down the flow of play by separating the player from the 
• (Mostly) Diceless. Dice add randomness to games, and some of that random diceyness is still present here for the GM introducing unexpected complicating elements into play. But player characters don't have to roll dice for every action, and instead live and die based on their plans as opposed to chance.
  
• Statless. Characters no longer have stats, and are instead entirely defined by what active abilities they have, what weaknesses they possess, and their personality.
  
• HPless. Instead you must track specific injuries and ailments your character has acquired.
• Word-based Spells. The Word-based magic system from OUH has been overhauled and streamlined, and made hopefully even more freeform!
• Generic. This system assumes a sort of general sword & sorcery base, but otherwise doesn't assume anything about specific campaign setting.
• Open. Even more than the last go around, HOU is built around keeping prep time for a campaign at a minimum. The hope at least is to focus purely on the ideas and the game itself, as opposed to trying to figure out how to make a monster's stats fit in or how difficult a roll should be.
• Still in development. As with it's predecessor, HOU is a passionate side-project of mine. It’s playable & presentable, but it will continue to be tweaked as a hobby!
