On Unnamed Horizons is a light-but-crunchy tabletop RPG. Some quick points include:

  • Dynamic Character Options. OUH is a class-free system, with more than 50 abilities available for characters to utilize. A typical campaign features players selecting from a subset of this list, and acquiring access to more through their adventures.
  • Less tracking. While there is some tracking to maintain a dungeon-delving feel, it’s been streamlined to try and maintain the feeling but with less effort required.
  • Math-light. Simple math and rolls hopefully keep this system a breeze.
  • Free-form spellcasting. With a Word-based system for magic: spellcasting can be quick and peculiar, with countless unique options and interactions.
  • Generic. Outside of sword & sorcery and a little brutality, the rules don’t assume anything about your campaign. Feel free to get inventive with it!
  • Open design. I’ve tried to keep all rules straightforward, simple, and independently operating enough for easy and quick content creation.
  • OSR-adjacent. It doesn’t quite fit the same mold as classic OSR content, but with quick conversion tools this system should work with most things OSR.
  • Weird. All of this system was originally born out of a challenge to do things weird. It’s since grown away from that a lot, but it’s definitely a different perspective.
  • Still in development. OUH is a backburner passion project of mine. It’s in a shareable and playable state, but it’s something that’s still being developed.

This edition is a public playtest version, which will be continually updated and tweaked as errors and flaws are discovered. It’s also the digital art-free version, which will be maintained through the full release. A paid physical release with art is also planned as part of a future full release.
